lists

Lists are basically just collections of records, which can be of different types in the same list. They can be used in any situation where it is useful to keep a group of records together, and handle them as a group. They can also be used as a very flexible method of indicating anything at all about a group of records, and processing them accordingly. Lists can sometimes be of a more permanent nature, but they can also be treated as a temporary way of holding a diverse group of records together while they are processed in some way.

For instance, all the web page groups, text blocks and web servers used to produce a particular web site can be kept on a list representing that web site. They can be called up for processing, exported or deleted as a group, and the web site can be created by generating all the web page groups on the list.

To give another example, a list might contain all the text blocks used on a given web site for which the English text has recently changed. They can then be called up by a translator to check the versions in another language, or exported and sent to the translator in the form of an import/export file (.ipd).

maintaining and manipulating lists

In the lists screen (control panel > web pages > lists) lists can be created and deleted, and records can be put onto and taken off lists.

Most screens also have a 'lists' page, using which the record currently called up in that screen can be put onto and taken off lists (e.g. control panel > texts and documents > text blocks > lists). In the case of the screen 'web page groups', this can be done on the 'advanced' page (control panel > web pages > web page groups > advanced).

Using the screen 'perform an action' (control panel > actions > perform an action), records can be put onto and taken off lists according to a wide variety of multiple selection criteria (including AND, OR, etc. if required), and the contents of lists can be added to and subtracted from one another.

using lists

Using the 'actions' page of the lists screen (control panel > web pages > lists > actions) the records on a list can be deleted, or called up in their respective screens to be worked on. Any web page groups on the list can also be generated or viewed in a browser window.

In the screen 'perform an action' (control panel > actions > perform an action), a list can be the starting point for any type of action.The list contents can be further selected if necessary according to a wide variety of multiple selection criteria (including AND, OR, etc. if required).
