responsibilities / projects |
System programmer, database designer, web designer and consultant.
| | Was responsible for the conversion, for a large foodstuffs wholesaler, of data from an outmoded HP3000 system to the IBM AS400 system which replaced it. This involved writing programs in PowerHouse QTP to download the database contents, producing Excel files on a PC. These were further manipulated using Visual Basic routines before being uploaded to the AS400 system.
| | Developed an invoice archival system for a cash-and-carry warehouse, whereby invoices on a HP3000 system were downloaded to a PC and incorporated into a MS Access database with extensive search possibilities and the ability to print copy invoices. The database was distributed to users on CD, replacing an older microfiche-based system.
| | Produced web sites for several small companies, including a translation agency and a well-known Amsterdam tattoo and piercing studio.
| | Developed the content management system webphlex, in which multilingual web sites are created and maintained in a MS Access database, from which the output files for the web site are then generated. |

| Aside from these strictly professional activities, Brian has for many years been doing translation (English / Dutch) and photographic work in his spare time, and he has recently been putting this experience to good use in the field of web design. |
| Brian's first language is English, but Dutch is definitely his ‘second native language’. He has spent most of the last twenty years working in Dutch-language environments, and has extensive experience with writing user guides and technical documentation in Dutch. He has a reasonable command of German and has worked as programmer in a German-language environment. He has recently been following a number of courses to improve his knowledge of French. |
