Following periods as a consultant with software houses Hoskyns Systems Ltd. and Fraser Williams in London, he moved to The Netherlands and spent several years with Database Consultants Europe in Amsterdam. Since 1985 he has been working freelance under the name 012 Computing, and more recently iphlex systems.

Brian Burns was born in Dublin, Ireland and grew up in London. He followed secondary education to GCE A-level before starting work in DP. He has been living in the Netherlands since 1982, and is unmarried but has been in a steady relationship since 1993.
